PhD in Writing and Rhetoric

The Job Year

My (recent) story.

After five years working as a WPA, in 2017 I decided to return to school for a doctorate in writing and rhetoric. I made this choice because I knew I loved my field and disciplinary community and I wanted the opportunity to further professionalize myself as a scholar and researcher as well as a teacher. So, in the fall of 2017 I moved my life to Michigan to attend Michigan State. Now I’m completing that work and am on the academic job market.

This website is the result of my work in a digital fellows program at MSU and is specifically focused toward professional spaces of academic work. It highlights my primary research trajectory of institutional change and labor equity as well as other areas of publication including WAC/WID and interdisciplinary collaborations focused on visual and performing arts practice. Another significant component of my work is how best to consider institutional relationships to community.

However, I see my scholarship and teaching as a way to make a contribution to the communities and environments where I live and work. I want to make those contributions meaningful and oriented in the visual, social and geographic landscape. As such, here, you’ll see that I incorporate place-based visual elements of my own making as I consider my digital presence and composition. This approach is reflected in my classroom where I use multi-modal composition theory and praxis with students. It is reflected here in narrative, photographs and multimedia texts.
